LOCATION: Davis, WV

RUN FOR IT is a 2k (1.2M) walk and USATF- certified 5k (3.1M) race around the scenic mountain town of Davis, WV during Leaf Peepers Festival. Raise funds and awareness for community organizations, projects, nonprofit agencies, educational activities, and charities located within the Foundation’s service area (see map below). Speed is not required to win.

At its heart, RUN FOR IT has two goals:
1. To encourage participation in a healthy activity (running & walking).
2. To leverage funds for area causes.

TCF Directors' General TeamTCF Directors' General Team proceeds support operations of Tucker Community Foundation and provides additional unrestricted funding for grant and scholarship awards.
Mountaintop ReadersTeam Captain - Ivonne Martinez: Libraries ensure that knowledge and technology are available to everyone and in our small rural community, it is a life line for many! Proceeds will go towards library operations (30%), i.e. books, programming, supplies, and technology and to the Mountaintop Public Library New Building Match Fund (70%).
Belington Public Library BookaneersTeam Captain - Tammy Smith: Belington Public Library's primary cause is to provide our community with materials, resources, and opportunities that inform, educate, enlighten, and entertain. In order to achieve these goals, the library must meet our WV Grants In Aid. The Run For It helps us meet the requirement to receive our annual funding.
Mountain Laurel Learning CooperativeTeam Captain- Jocelyn Gaujot: Mountain Laurel Learning Cooperative inspires children to become creative, life-long scholars and engaged, compassionate citizens in their community.
Fresh CanvasTeam Captain - Glenda Easton: Fresh Canvas supports the Garrett Easton Endowed Fund which supports the arts in the Tucker County Public Schools.
Pocahontas County Senior CitizensTeam Captain - Anna McCarty: The mission of PCSC, Inc is to alleviate senior hunger and social isolation and promote life, health, honor, and dignity for the aging and disabled in Pocahontas County. We provide community focal points and reach out to the homebound through meals on wheels and in-home services.
Canaan Valley Ski PatrolTeam Captain - Ray LaMora: Assist with on the hill and off the hill first aid around Canaan Valley Resort. Maintain ski area safety and transport off the mountain if necessary.
Kingwood Elementary School StagsTeam Captain - Jill E. Zeigler: Kingwood Stags are seeking alternative strategies to make our students academically and socially successful. This will include programs such as gardening and outdoor education, robotics and coding, personal development, leadership, and anti-bullying programs. We will also include relevant field trips to apply our skills in the real world.
After School Explorers - Preston CountyTeam Captain - Susie Huggins & Shawn Britton: After School Explorers provides after school programming to 8 schools serving 400 children. Services include homework help, healthy snack, computer time, physical activity, enrichments and presentations. ASE offers Little Learners, story hour and computer night. ASE participates in RUN FOR IT! to continue building the endowment to support after school programs in Preston County.
Alpine Heritage Preservation/ArtspringTeam Captain - Elaine George: Alpine Heritage Preservation is dedicated to the restoration of Cottrill's Opera House as a community cultural hub with a 366 seat theater for hosting live performance, film, and simulcast events. As AHP works to secure capital funds for the restoration, we host cultural and educational arts and entertainment opportunities throughout the year. ArtSpring is a committee of AHP and operates year-round in Tucker County to connect artists, businesses and communities. Our major activity, though, is ArtSpring Weekend – A Tour of Tucker County Arts. Growing each year, ArtSpring 2015 included over 50 events enjoyed by approximately 2000 participants – good for the arts, good for business and good for Tucker County.
Friends of the CheatTeam Captain - Amanda Pitzer: Friends of the Cheat (FOC) is a grassroots watershed group working to "restore, preserve, and promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River Watershed". FOC cleans up acid mine drainage pollution, monitors stream health, develops regional rail-trails, and public river accesses, and educates and advocates for a healthy environment. Cruisin' CrittersTeam Captain - Karen Linton: The Cruisin' Critters is the Mountaineer Humane Society's team. All monies will be used for spay and neuter vouchers for companion animals of Tucker County.
Challenged Athletes of WVTeam Captain - David Begg: Challenged Athletes of West Virginia provides sports and recreation opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. Programs include adaptive ski school operations in Pocahontas and Tucker County, volunteer opportunities, summer activities, and annual winter and summer multi sports camps for wounded veterans and their families. Challenged Athletes of WV is a Paralympic Sports Club and a chapter of Disabled Sports USA.
Philippi Public Library BookwormsTeam Captain Judy Buckner Larry: The Philippi Public Library Bookworms team is raising funds, support and awareness for the library in order to match our WV Grant-in-Aid, meet operational expenses, update library services and programs and maintain an aging facility.
DTEMS-PTOTeam Captain - Cynthia Shaffer: The Davis Thomas Elementary Middle School Parent Teacher Organization is currently working on raising money for a gymnasium restoration fund that will replace 30 year old bleachers and flooring in the gym. Safety is a primary focus for this project.
Team Boulder ParkTeam Captain - Adam Chase: Raising support for the third and final boulder. The public climbing park located behind the Davis Ball Field is a collaborative community enhancement project. Help us climb!
Preston Community Fund RunnersTeam Captain - David Moran: Growing unrestricted funds to benefit Preston County communities.
Eastern Mountains Young LifeTeam Captain - Chopper Evans: Young Life is an organization that reaches out to teens. We are raising money for teens to attend fall weekend and summer camp.
New Historic ThomasTeam Captain - Emily Wilson-Hauger: New Historic Thomas is a community non-profit dedicated to revitalizing Thomas. Proceeds will be dedicated to the match of a committed grant for design and engineering work of a pedestrian bridge in Thomas, connecting the rail trail and downtown businesses with the Thomas Trails and eventually with Cortland Acres.
Team HannahTeam Captains - The Friend Family: Team Hannah was created in Hannah Friend's memory to support the youth in Tucker County through Christ's example of love. Today the fund sponsors community children with church camp scholarships, youth trips, and weekly youth activities. Thank you for giving children in our community the opportunity to learn about God's love through this outreach at Community Bible Church.
Linwood LizardsTeam Captain - Amber McClure: Linwood Learning Adventures is a community non-profit youth programming initiative. We provide programs for infants through school age. Operated solely on sponsorship and our affordable tuition. We strive to keep cost low and programming high quality. We are known for our garden, strider bike, yoga, and free ski team programs!
CVVFD Auxiliary PowerTeam Captain - Diane Beall: To support the Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Citizens Bank of West VirginiaTeam Captain - Kathy Leombruno: We are proud to walk for the Randolph/Tucker Children's Advocacy Center who work to prevent abuse and keep children safe. They work with multidisciplinary teams to successfully prosecute child abuse perpetrators and assist with coordinated investigations. Our local CAC assures the highest standard of care is provided to child victims.
Freedom MarchersTeam Captain - Richard Marsh: Belington American Legion Post 96 & Auxiliary Programs for Boys and Girls state, scouts, patriotic education in schools, sponsor of youth sports & programs, Memorial Day service & flags at cemetery, Veterans Day parade, Wreaths across America, care packages to deployed troops, Four Chaplain Service at Churches, sponsors Gold Star Mothers of WV, and more.
PRO ON TracTeam Captain - Bonnie Swyter Parsons Revitalization Organization (PRO) ON TRAC is a non-profit organization dedicated to revitalizing the city of Parsons by beautifying downtown, rehabilitating key historic buildings, and promoting Parsons as an appealing and vibrant place to live, work, and visit.
Highlands Trail FoundationTeam Captain - Mandy Sullivan: Proceeds of the event will benefit the Highlands Trail Foundation and support our continued work to develop recreational trail opportunities in the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia. HTF is a non-profit organization.
Heart of the Highlands Trail SystemTeam Captains - Julie Dzaack & Dan Lehmann: Heart of the Highlands Trail System works with Tucker County public lands and community stakeholders. They create, maintain, and promote a system of outstanding quality trails and related amenities to enhance the county's recreational and economic potential.
