Teams representing Philippi Public Library (top) and Belington Public Library captured more than $14,500  from the Tour of Davis – Run For It 2k/5k race.

Barbour Democrat  October 10, 2011  Two Barbour County teams demonstrated a strong show of support for their community  libraries in the Tucker Community Foundation’s recent Run For It event, a benefit race that raises support and awareness for local causes. 

Belington Book-aneer team members, led by Team Captain Tammy Smith, have raised more than $26,807 over the 3 years the library has participated in the annual program.  This year 18 team members raised $5,700 in sponsor donations and won race day awards totaling $5,100.    Tammy Smith was awarded the $100 5k Luck of the Draw award,  Tyler Baldwin won the $500 Fastest 5k Youth award, Dan Aerni won the $500 Fastest 5k Masters award for the 2nd year in a row, the team was awarded $1,000 for Best Effort to raise awareness and support, recruit team members and demonstrate team spirit, $1000 for being the Top Fundraising Team from Barbour County and $2000 for their 3rd place win in the Top Fundraising Team Overall category. 

Philippi Public Library, led by Team Captain Judy Buckner Larry, entered the program in 2010 and came back strong for the 2011 race.  Last year their race proceeds totaled $282, this year their proceeds totaled $3,622 for operational support of the library.  Twenty five team members “raised their hats” to win $1,000 in the Best Effort category.  Team member Sam Kelley won the $100 2k Luck of the Draw award.
