West Virginia – On May 5 & 6, 2015, at least twenty-four West Virginia’s counties will be benefiting from generous friends and neighbors on the local, county, state and possibly national level thanks to Give2WV Day: Give Local America campaign, a national 24-Hour Campaign for local giving. This event strengthens the foundations of our communities through a 24-hour crowdfunding event that provides critical funding for and celebrates the work of our nonprofits and communities across West Virginia and the country.

This year Give2WV Day promotes local giving for communities served by the four community foundations in West Virginia in partnership with the national Give Local America campaign.  The four participating West Virginia community foundations include: Hinton Area Foundation and Tucker Community Foundation through Give2WV.org from 4 PM on May 5th to 3:59 PM on May 6th, Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley through GiveOV.org on May 5th from 12 AM to 11:59 PM, and Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and Regional Affiliates through GiveLocalMov.org on May 5th from 12 AM to 11:59 PM.  Last year, Give Local America’s first annual event resulted in more than $53 million collectively across the country being donated to and for communities in just 24-hours.  In West Virginia, nearly $500,000 was raised in 2014 between the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley and Parkersburg Area Community Foundation’s participation.  The dollars raised through Give Local America Day go to local nonprofits and community foundations thus increasing and keeping these charitable investments in our communities for our greatest needs.

This year the goal for Give Local America is to double fundraising across the country and especially in West Virginia.

Give2WV is a program of Philanthropy WV’s Community Foundations Initiatives supporting the growth of local endowed community philanthropy.  “Give2WV Day is just one part of our overall work to increase local community philanthropy focused on community development to ensure strong communities. West Virginia is the midst of a multi-billion dollar wealth transfer from the older two generations to the younger two generations and it is critical to our citizens and communities to make sure we can engage at least 5% of this wealth for local permanent community philanthropy,” says Paul D. Daugherty, president and CEO of Philanthropy West Virginia.  He adds, “Give2WV Day in partnership with Give Local America is just the first phase of our work in West Virginia to engage at least 5% of this massive billion dollar wealth transfer by making our friends and neighbors aware of the impact they can have in giving local through their community foundations for multiple community needs and nonprofit organizations that are For Good, For West Virginia, Forever.  This 24 hour period will be supporting numerous vital community organizations and broad range of community development efforts.”  The participating community foundations in Give2WV: Give Local America serve twenty-four counties including: Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants, Tucker, Barbour, Preston, Grant, Mineral, Randolph, Pocahontas, Wood, Ritchie, Doddridge, Wirt, Calhoun, Gilmer, Jackson, Mason, Roane, and Summers in West Virginia.

“Whether you live in your hometown or county or live on the other side of the world, you can make a difference by supporting your hometown community foundation on May 5th & 6th in West Virginia.  This is a great opportunity for everyone in our communities to contribute to the greatest good by making every dollar stay local and go further.” adds Daugherty.
