A Pocahontas High School graduate recently received a scholarship from the Tucker Community Foundation.

Logan Woodruff of Dunmore is the recipient of a $750 scholarship from the Joseph R. Steffl Scholarship Fund. Woodruff plans to attend West Virginia University to study Wildlife and Fisheries Resources. His parents are Michael Woodruff of Green Bank and Rhonda Woodruff of Dunmore.

In his application Woodruff is focused on his future and plans to work hard to achieve his goals.

“I would like to earn a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Resources from West Virginia University. Aside from my general college education, I would like to purse my two passions in Wildlife; endangered species and invasive species,” he wrote.

Woodruff is involved in numerous community activities. He picks up litter afterschool and on the weekends, puts up bird houses and plants trees.

Woodruff received numerous accolades throughout his high school years. He is involved in the forestry team, baseball, super scholar, stem club member and a member of the National Honor Society. He has also volunteered for a variety of events and programs including: Greenbrier river marathon, literacy fair, social studies fair and flood relief.

Overall, the Tucker Community Foundation awarded over $82,000 in scholarships to 55 area students in nine counties. Funds for the awards are generated by endowed funds, pass-through donations, and unrestricted income managed by the Foundation.
