Barbour County Teams Ready to Run For It

-July 28, 2015 – Teams in the area are gearing up to raise support and awareness to benefit the Kasson Elementary Middle School PTO, the Belington and the Philippi Public Libraries, the Belington American Legion 96 & Auxiliary, and Broaddus Hospital.

More than $80,000 in prize money is up for grabs at the Tucker Community Foundation’s Run For It race scheduled for Saturday, September 26.  Last year, Barbour County teams captured more than $26,000 for local causes.

Judy Larry is back in the race leading the Philippi Public Library Bookaneers.  Larry is looking to raise matching funds for the WV Grant-in-Aid and to keep their library providing valuable services to the community. The team netted over $12,000 from last year’s race and hope to raise the bar again this year.

The Kasson Eagles are racing to support the Kasson Parent Teacher Organization. Team Captain Tracy Knotts is looking for team members and sponsor support to benefit Kasson School programs, classrooms, and teacher needs. 2014 race proceeds provided $2,800 for the Kasson PTO.

The Freedom Marchers are back again to raise support for their programs including patriotic education, sponsoring youth sports, Memorial Day services, providing care packages to deployed troops and much more.  Leading the march for this team is Richard D. Marsh and Sheryl Corey.

New to the race is Barbour County Team Health led by Jeff Powelson.  What better way to promote increased health and wellness opportunities than by a walking/running race?  Barbour County Team Health looks to educate and promote healthy eating alternatives and expansion of physical exercise activities such as walking and biking trails.

Tammy Smith is leading the charge for the Belington Public Library Bookaneers.  Belington Public Library entertains, informs, educates, and enlightens the community.  Always a strong contender, the Bookaneers are hoping to top last year’s $9,261.
