The Best of Philanthropy Awards were presented Oct. 2, 2008 at the annual West Virginia Grantmakers Conference held at Stonewall Jackson resort. The awards recognize individuals and organizations for their outstanding achievements in the field of philanthropy. Mariwyn McClain Smith, charter member of Tucker Community Foundation, was selected as the 2008 recipient of the Spirit of Philanthropy Award.
Mariwyn has been actively involved on the local and state level for the past 19 years. She served as Secretary of TCF for 13 years and remains active as a current board member. She was a founding member of the WV Consortium, now known as WV Grantmakers. Mariwyn is recognized for her innate ability to bring innovative ideas to the table and her outstanding committee work. According to Diane Beall, President of TCF, “This foundation and the Tucker community are proud to call Mariwyn Smith one of its own. The impact of her generosity and vision will benefit others for perpetuity.”
