Crimson Shamrock Fund

 

TYPE OF FUND:  Scholarship                       DATE ESTABLISHED:  Initiated:  January 2009

 

PURPOSE:  To provide scholarships for postgraduate college students from Preston and Tucker Counties, West Virginia, and Garrett County, Maryland.

 

DISTRIBUTION:  To be awarded to post-graduate college students from Tucker and Preston Counties in West Virginia and Garrett County, MD.   The individual or individuals must be working towards a master’s, doctorate or professional degree.  Any individual may apply each year as financial need arises; non-discriminatory distribution.  Scholarships will be awarded to students upon the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee and the approval of the TCF Board of Directors. The award decision is to be based upon the expression of applicant interest in pursuing professional work in the area from where applications are drawn. The funds initiators request, when possible, the Scholarship Committee considers the applicants need. The Board may use applications and point structure in picking a recipient.

 

VARIANCE POWER:  If, in the judgment of the TCF Board of Directors, the restrictions and conditions of the fund become unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community, the TCF Board of Directors maintains the right to modify the terms of this fund.  TCF has exclusive legal control over any contributed assets.

 

FUNDING:  Donations are accepted from individuals and from institutions wishing to promote the increased educational opportunities for graduate students in the rural areas of Tucker, Preston and Garrett Counties

 

BACKGROUNDDr. David Dunstan Moran and Ms. Lori Leigh Wall are residents of Eglon, West Virginia.  They own and operate the Crimson Shamrock Ranch, raising Suri Alpaca and Wensleydale Sheep exclusively for the fine natural fiber market.  They farm 120 acres of mountain land and continue to serve the community in professional functions and civic activities.  They are both professional engineers with postgraduate educations and believe that the future of all humanity, especially in our beautiful mountain region, depends upon continued education in technical and human areas of endeavor.
