Bradley John Ramsey Scholarship Fund Announced

John Ramsey

The memory of Bradley John Ramsey (far right) will live on forever through
an endowment established in his honor by his wife Pauletta
Vandevander Ramsey (left), daughter Erin Elaine Ramsey-Pregley,
son Daniel William Ramsey, and daughter Heather Nichole Ramsey.

Tucker Community Foundation is proud to announce a new scholarship fund established by
family members to honor the memory of Brad Ramsey, a well-known and respected member of
the Tucker Community.

Bradley John Ramsey was born January 6, 1951 in Parsons, WV. He was the first in his family to
attend college, attending Potomac State and then transferring to West Virginia University
(WVU). After graduation in 1973 he returned to Parsons and worked as a city police officer
while searching for a job related to his degree. In 1973, he was hired as Truancy Officer by the
Tucker County Board of Education, a career that lasted over 33 years.

Daughter Heather stated her father “worked primarily in administration but wore many hats”,
including truancy officer, attendance director, textbook coordinator, facilities and maintenance
director, home school coordinator, and transportation director. In 2006, he retired due to poor
health. He died September 25, 2011 in Elkins, WV.

Family members say Ramsey was very passionate about West Virginia history, U.S. history,
politics, world news, and current affairs. He enjoyed steam engines and loved visiting Cass
Scenic Railroad in WV. In addition to his work with the Board of Education, he served as a
paramedic and Mayor of Parsons. A devoted family man, Ramsey was proud to have all three
of his children graduate from WVU. The Bradley J. Ramsey Memorial Scholarship Fund will produce annual awards for a Tucker
County resident and graduating senior of Tucker County High School who attends Potomac
State College or WVU.
