2013 Teams

2.  Ridge Runners support the Falling Green Fund for community based youth organizations, 4-H leadership and equestrian activities, and youth skiing activities.  Contact Scott Hinkle 304.259.5361.

3.  Team Hannah supports the Hannah Friend Memorial Fund of the Community Bible Church.  The fund supports community and church youth in Tucker County by sending them to church camps, youth trips and weekly youth activities throughout the year.  Contact the Friend family at 304-259-2225.

4.  Challenged Athletes of West Virginia provides outdoor sports and recreation opportunities for children and adults with disabilities.  CAWV programs include the Adaptive Sports Center at Snowshoe, Challenged Athletes at Timberline, Warfighter Sports Veteran’s Programs, and the CAWV Wheelers wheelchair basketball team.  Challenged Athletes is a chapter of Disabled Sports USA and a Paralympic Sports Club.  Proceeds will benefit Pocahontas, Tucker, Randolph, and several other WV counties. 5.  Preston County Humane Society is an independent, nonprofit organization working in our communities to promote humane animal care.  Our Spay and Neuter Fund helps Preston County families and saves lives by reducing the number of homeless and unwanted pets.  We sponsor the HSUS publication Kind News for elementary school classrooms.  We speak out on issues important to the health and welfare of animals and their caregivers.  Contact Dana Rexroad at 304-379-9821.

6.  Elkins / Randolph YMCA is raising support for the reconstruction of their community pool.  Contact Kristi Lynch at 304-636-4515. 

7.  Mountaintop Readers are raising support for the Mountaintop Public Library in Thomas.  The library strives to offer equitable access to information, a place to gather, and modern library resources and services necessary to satisfy the evolving informational needs of our community.  In order to continue to offer these services and increase patronage, we need to update our computers and increase the number available for use. The ability to offer new classes on computer literacy and information technology will empower community members to search and apply for jobs, take on-line college courses, and study for GED exams to improve their economic status.  Contact Ivone Martinez at 304-463-4582.

8.  TCF Directors’ General Team proceeds support operations of Tucker Community Foundation and provides additional unrestricted funding for grant and scholarship awards.  Contact Bud Parsons 304-478-2660.

9.  Fresh Canvas supports the Garrett Easton Fund for the creative arts in Tucker County schools.  Contact Glenda Easton 703-791-5727.

10.  WV Highlands Artisans Group is raising support for a nonprofit artisan cooperative that seeks to encourage artisans to create and display their work; provide art & craft educations; provide low cost gallery space to members; serve as a community resource to artisans and continue to build HAG’s STArt project (School-Town Art) that provides support for art instruction in Tucker County schools.  Contact Emily Wilson-Hauger 717-503-6332.

11.  Garrett Mentors “On-The-Move”  is a nonprofit mentoring program providing mentors to students during the school day in grades K-5.  Mentors from the community spend 1 hr. per week with a child to help them with school work and social skills.  The program currently serves over 100 children throughout Garrett County who are in need of a caring adult.  After school events are also provided 4-6 times per year (tubing, fun land, picnics, holiday parties, etc.).  Contact Bonnie Swyter 301-334-9568.

12.  Belington Public Library Bookaneers are raising funds and awareness for the Belington Public Library.  The funding is needed for library essentials, adult and children’s programs and to match the West Virginia Grant In Aid requirement for state funding.  Contact Marty Waybright at 304-823-3905.

13.  Heart of the Highlands Trail System is working to connect, improve and promote trail systems on public lands in Tucker County to enhance the area’s recreation and economic potential.  Funds raised will support ongoing trail maintenance.  Contact Julie Dzaack at 304-866-4757.

14.  Five Rivers Library Explorersare raising funds and awareness for Five Rivers Library to support programming and literacy through pre-school story time classes, summer reading programs, book club activities, summer movie days, Grant-in-Aid and basic computer classes.  Contact Becky Moore at 304-478-2208.

15.  Cruisin’ Critters wanted!  The team is raising support for the Mountaineer Humane Society’s spay and neuter voucher program for companion animals of Tucker County residents.  Contact Karen Linton at 304-288-7110.

16.  H2O Go is improving the lives of everything living in Canaan Valley and beyond through monitoring, cleaning, and restoring the Blackwater watershed to it’s natural glory.  Donations support the Cheat River Watershed (Tucker County). Contact Bij Sarlati at 304-259-5600. 

17.  Team Billie Armstrong Fund is raising support for Central WV Pregnancy Care Centers.  Contact Phoebe Mollard at 304-940-0746. 

18.  Cortland Challengers are supporting Cortland Foundation, Inc. The Foundation’s mission is to secure the resources necessary to enhance the health and well-being of the residents of the Cortland Community. Cortland Acres is a non-profit in Thomas, WV (Tucker County) helping people age in healthy, affordable and meaningful ways.  Our campus includes a 94 bed skilled nursing facility offering long term care solutions, a Rehabilitation Center with in-patient and out-patient physical, occupation and speech therapy services, a 24 unit HUD certified housing development, and a Physician’s office. 19.  Team Pioneer is raising support for Pioneer Memorial Public Library in Harman, WV.  The money raised will be used to develop our new local history / rotating display area. Contact Judy Bucher 304-227-4598.

20.  Canaan Valley VFD to support and further their mission of providing public safety for the citizens of Canaan Valley and surrounding communities.  Contact Diane Beall 304-866-4188.

21.  Team Tyler is raising support for the Davis Memorial Hospital Cancer Center / Patient Assistance Fund.  The fund helps patients in need offset the expenses of medications, wigs, prosthetics, and travel associated with their illness.  The team is named in  honor of a young man recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma who has experienced first-hand how beneficial the cancer center and fund are to the community.  Contact Donna Haddix 304-637-2707.  

22.  Mountain Laurel Learning Cooperative is a non-profit educational organization for local children ages 3-9.  Our curriculum is based on the Montessori philosophies of education.  Contact Shannon McCann 304-678-9775. 

23.  Cottrill’s Opera House is raising support for the restoration of Cottrill’s Opera House as a cultural center for Tucker County.  Contact Robin McClintock 304-642-8785.

24.  Canaan Valley Ski Patrol is a non-profit organization responsible for the protection of those enjoying their time on and around the Canaan Valley Ski Area and Tube Park.  Race proceeds will help offset the cost of training and supplies.  Every ski patrol member is certified as an Outdoor Emergency Technician requiring training all summer and winter to hone medical and skiing skills.  CVSP are first responders to accidents, lost hikers, medical emergencies, lift evacuations, and any other situation that may arise around the park. 25.  Mountain State Girls on the Run is a life-changing, character development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade.  Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.  Contact Jody Logar 304-276-1819.

26.  Philippi Public Library team members are raising operational support for the library. The Barbour County library strives to provide quality materials, programs and services to fulfill the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community and fosters life-long learning.  The library offers programs, including but not limited to, computer literacy, financial literacy, resume writing and job search for adults, Teen Read Week (Literacy Program) and Early Literacy Programs for children.  To continue to offer these programs and services to patrons with opportunities to learn and explore new and emerging technologies, we must update our technology.  Contact Judy Buckner Larry 304-457-3495.

27. Deerfield 74 team members, friends, and family enjoy vacationing in Tucker County and surrounding areas so they are raising support for the Donaldson-Corey Fund for Canaan Valley EMS.  Contact Anne Cecilia Smith 571-217-0840.

28.  Team Penelope proceeds support marketing and tuition for PH Food and Farm workshops on nutrition, preservation, cooking, gardening and farming.  Contact Kimmy

29.  Knights of Columbus 603 supports 3 parishes in the Randolph County area and activities in each.  Proceeds will help the organization in its mission to help the community by giving time and resources to Catholic Charities, Pro-Life WV, Meals on Wheels, Randolph Co. Cancer Support, Elkins High FCCLA, and Randolph Co. CAC.  KOC 603 hosts family, youth and fraternal events across the area and assists with masses, funerals, and Holy Day activities.  Contact Robert Hammer 304-940-2048. 

30.  Riverfront Ramblers are raising support for maintenance and upgrades of the Davis Riverfront Park.  Contact David Faunce at 304-704-8145.

31.  Rowdy Readers are raising support for the Tygart Valley Community Library in the center of Mill Creek (Randolph County).  The library is located near George Ward Elementary and Tygart Valley Middle/High School, neither of which have school libraries.  Contact Sharon Mallow 304-335-6277.

32.  Friends of Kasson Playground are raising support for Kasson Elementary Middle School PTO to renovate an aging playground.  The project would benefit @ 200 students from 1 – 8 grade. Contact Tracy Knotts 304-457-1104.

34.  DTEMS – PTO is raising support to purchase a new math program for the Davis Thomas Elementary Middle School students.  Contact Tina Bonner 304-940-6096.

35.  Tucker County Young Life are raising support to help send teens to Young Life camp and fall weekend. The camp costs $520 / teen.  Last year 16 Tucker County teens were able to attend and reported back that it was “the best week of their life.”  Contact Chopper Evans 304-642-1234.

36.  Camp Mountain Magic is raising support for a three week summer program that provides students with special needs a safe, familiar structured environment to help them transition back to school at the end of summer.  Contact Rhonda Sisler 240-743-8255. 

37.  Crossroads is supporting the Crossroads Church of Garrett County Operation Christmas Child mission.  Funds will purchase items to send in shoe boxes to children all over the world at Christmas.  Contact Patty Marsh 301-533-6929 or 240-321-0787.

38. OES Walter All Stars, a nonprofit organization, will use race proceeds to benefit the general charitable needs (food, clothing, utilities, medical, etc.) of needy Tucker County families.  Contact Cindy Harman 304-866-4911. 

39.  Mt. Lions of Aurora are walking to raise support for the Joyce Colbert Veterinary Scholarship Fund.  The Fund awards annual scholarships to students majoring in animal sciences and biology or veterinary medicine from Tucker, Preston and Garrett Counties.  Contact Dee Douglas 304-735-5228. 

40.  Tucker Runners are raising support for Tucker County High School cross country teams.  The money will be used for transportation to and from the state meet, hotel stays at meets and equipment needed for the year.  Contact Michele Mullenax at 304-478-3606.
