11.  Garrett Mentors “On-The-Move”  is a nonprofit mentoring program providing mentors to students during the school day in grades K-5.  Mentors from the community spend 1 hr. per week with a child to help them with school work and social skills.  The program currently serves over 100 children throughout Garrett County who are in need of a caring adult.  After school events are also provided 4-6 times per year (tubing, fun land, picnics, holiday parties, etc.).  Contact Bonnie Swyter 301-334-9568.

24.  Canaan Valley Ski Patrol is a non-profit organization responsible for the protection of those enjoying their time on and around the Canaan Valley Ski Area and Tube Park.  Race proceeds will help offset the cost of training and supplies.  Every ski patrol member is certified as an Outdoor Emergency Technician requiring training all summer and winter to hone medical and skiing skills.  CVSP are first responders to accidents, lost hikers, medical emergencies, lift evacuations, and any other situation that may arise around the park.
