BACKGROUND: Lorene Elizabeth Hedrick Pennington was born in Sugarland WV on April 24, 1922. She was the eldest of seven children of William and Viola Hedrick. When she was a freshman in high school, she was forced to quit school when she was needed to stay at home to care for her younger siblings while her parents both worked to support the family. Later in life she did, however, attend classes and received her GED in October 1974.

Lorene was a woman of faith and lived a Christian life. She raised three children alone since our parents separated when we were young. Hugh (Karol) lives in Kernersville, NC; Lana lives in Williamsburg, VA; and Steve lives in the family home in Hambleton.

Lorene Pennington passed away on 28 May 2008.
