Garrett County Teams Ready to Run For It

– August 11, 2015 – Garrett County teams are often strong contenders in the race to win support for local causes.  Garrett Mentors and Garrett Trails are seeking team members and sponsor support to help capture a slice of the $84,400 that will be awarded on Saturday, September 26 at Run For It, a 2k walk and 5k run around the Town of Davis.

Veteran team, Garrett Mentors finished in the top 10 last year collecting more than $5,000 for their cause.  Led by Laura Fike, they seek operational support for their program which provides Garrett County Public School students with caring, adult role models.

Garrett Trails are back again to seek support for the development of high-quality, sustainable trails which provide access to Garrett County’s historic, municipal, and environmental treasures.  Team captain, Steve Green, is being assisted in his recruitment efforts by the SZB Wedding Chasers, the wedding guests of Sara-Beth James and Zach Bittinger.  Sara-Beth and Zach are getting married in Davis the weekend of the Run For It race and are encouraging all their guests to run and support their community.  They both love the outdoors and chose Garrett Trails because of Zach’s passion for mountain biking.  But you don’t have to be getting married to come out and support Garrett Trails’ efforts or to be a team sponsor.

Capitalizing on a unique program that rewards effort, motivates participation in a healthy activity, and leverages additional support for the county, Garrett County Commissioners join 5 other county commissions that are supporting their respective teams through the Run For It program.

Run For It is held on the streets of Davis during Leaf Peepers Festival. The 2k walk and 5k run starts and finishes in front of the Davis Volunteer Fire Department on Rt. 32.  Team photos start at 10am, race line up starts at 10:50 and the racers are out of the gate at 11am.  Awards are announced at 1pm.  Racers can enjoy music, craft vendors, food and other festivities and still make it back to enjoy the Buckwheat Festival.

Since 2007, Run For It has generated more than $775,000 to benefit community causes throughout the region. Fifty five teams are registered for the September event; the largest lineup in race history.
