June 2, 2015 – Tucker Community Foundation (TCF) Directors recently approved $70,000 in scholarship awards for 46 area students from a six county region. Funding was provided by endowed funds, pass-through donations, and unrestricted income.

Top awards went to two Tucker County graduates:  Helen Melnick of Leadmine, WV, recipient of the $8,500 P.L. & Elizabeth Milkint Scholarship Award and Morgan Moss of Hambleton, WV, recipient of a $2,000 4-year renewable Kep & Alice Smith Scholarship award.  Moss plans to study elementary education; Melnick is seeking a Biology degree.

Garrett County students receiving awards include Katelyn Gnegy and Sierra Legeer.  Gnegy received a $2,000 Joyce Colbert Scholarship award to pursue a degree in Animal Science& Veterinary Medicine and Legeer received a TCF Directors General Scholarship worth $500 to pursue pre-med studies.

 From Grant County, Madison Martin of Maysville received a $500 TCF Directors General Scholarship to study English and Lauren Baker of Mt. Storm was awarded a $1,200 Kline, Evans, Allison Scholarship to study Veterinary Technology.

 Adam W. Irvine, of Green Bank (Pocahontas County) received a $1,000 Joseph Steffl Scholarship to study Forestry. Sommer Dilly of Elkins (Randolph County) received a $1,000 Joseph Steffl Scholarship to study Bio/Pre-Med.

Three new endowments provided a total of $8,000 for Preston County students: the Preston High School American Legion Fund awarded $3,000 to Emma McClelland of Kingwood to study nursing, $1,000 to Matthew Vero of Bruceton Mills, and $1,000 to Denzil Graham of Albright; the Crimson Shamrock Fund awarded $2,000 to Jeremy Pyles of Kingwood to study Pharmacy; and the Knights of Pythias Brown Lodge #32 Fund awarded $2,000 to Taylor Jennings of Arthurdale to pursue a degree in petroleum engineering.

 Many endowed funds benefit Tucker County students.  Two students graduating from Tucker County High School received $3,000 scholarships: Samantha Hold of Parsons, Rebecca Ann Chenoweth Scholarship; and Sarah Davis of Davis, H. Max Price Scholarship.

Four $2,000 scholarships were awarded to Angela Bohon of Parsons, Michael Shahan Scholarship; Katalin Moore of Parsons, Parsons High School Alumni Scholarship; Andrew Hauser, Dr. Mary Alice Klein Scholarship; and Kelsey Kyle of Parsons, Harry & Elizabeth Boyce Scholarship.

Two $1,500 scholarships were awarded to Madison Mullenax of Parsons, Enos, Delbert H. & Shirley W. Carr Scholarship, and Summer Snyder of Thomas, Davis Fraternal Order of Eagles #936.

$1,200 awards were issued to Josie Mullenax of Hambleton, Orr Family Scholarship; and Trent Smith of Hambleton, Doug & Betty Preble Scholarship.

$1,000 scholarships were awarded to Miranda Siler, Robert W. Minear, Jr. Scholarship; Erin Mackenzie of Thomas, Madeline Miller Scholarship, Adrianna Bowley of Hambleton, Margaret Ann & James A. Grafton Scholarship; Katie  Clevenger of Thomas, Martha C. Sponaugle Scholarship; Olivia Miller of Hambleton, W. Denzel & Ernestine A. Kee Scholarship; Steven Sponaugle of Parsons, Forest G. Clark Scholarship; Catherine Chambers of Parsons, Herbert W. Clarkson Scholarship; Chastity Putlovis of Davis, Harold & Ruth Shaffer Scholarship; Bayli Helmick of Hambleton, Herbert W. Clarkson Scholarship; Isaac Cole of Parsons, Walter & Mary Shaffer Helmick Scholarship; Wesley Knotts of Parsons, Jillian Roberts & Matilde Villalobos Millennium Scholarship; Walker Blosser of Parsons, Harold & Ruth Shaffer Scholarship.

Aiyana L. Kachmarek of Kerens won the $1,000 Ryan Gosa Memorial Pass-Through Scholarship to study creative writing and  journalism.

 The Gary Wilson Scholarship provides annual scholarships for Tucker County residents who are student at a Christian elementary, middle or high school, or being home schooled employing Christian educational principles and values. Receiving awards from $110-$165: Emily & Rebecca Siler; Timothy, George and Paul Garrett. 

  Former Tucker County graduates, Emily White, Danielle Wilfong and Melissa Carr, continue to benefit from their 4-year renewable Kep & Alice Smith Scholarship awards.
