Preston Community Endows Fund
Support to build a pool of unrestricted funds to benefit Preston County has established
the Preston Community Fund, an endowed fund that generates support for community,
social, and educational programs and projects.
The seed fund started in 2011 and had to reach a minimum of $10,000 before
investments could produce enough income to generate annual grant or scholarship
awards. A successful fundraising effort by several stakeholders recently pushed the

Robert Burns, Executive Director, states “the Preston Community Fund is the first Area
Fund of Tucker Community Foundation established to create a pool of unrestricted
funds to benefit a specific geographic area. Initiated with a dollar for dollar (up to
$5,000) match challenge by the Foundation and an anonymous donor who committed
to matching donations up to $3,000, we commend the strong response from the
Preston Community and project continued growth of the fund.”
As an established fund of Tucker Community Foundation, the Preston Community Fund
is pooled with more than 100 other endowed funds to maximize investment potential
and keep administrative costs low. The historical value of donations is preserved for
perpetuity and only the income generated is distributed for grant and scholarship
awards based on a competitive application process. Recommendations on distributions
from the fund will be made by a committee of Preston County residents.
Tucker Community Foundation is celebrating its 25th year of service. Originating in
Tucker County, the Foundation now manages endowed funds serving eight counties
throughout the Potomac Highlands and Garrett County, Maryland.
