Foundation Announces ’08 Scholarship Recipients

Tucker Community Foundation recently announced more than $59,000 in scholarship awards to 45 area students.  “Over 170 applications were received and given careful consideration by the Scholarship Committee of TCEF”, reports Robert Burns, Executive Director.  Tucker County students were awarded $44,700.

The Foundation serves Barbour, Grant, Preston, Pocahontas, Randolph, and Tucker counties.  Each spring it awards scholarships based on a competitive application process.  Funds for the scholarships are made available from a variety of endowed funds managed by the Foundation, as well as pass through donations and other unrestricted funds. 

Endowed funds of the Foundation are established by individuals, living or deceased that wish to provide a perpetual funding source.  As fund advisors, those individuals have the option to name the fund and determine the distribution criteria.  Fund advisors have a five year period to meet the minimum fund requirement established by TCEF.
