RUN FOR IT is a 2k (1.2M) walk and USATF- certified 5k (3.1M) race around the scenic mountain town of Davis, WV during Leaf Peepers Festival. The event raises funds and awareness for community organizations, projects, nonprofit agencies, educational activities, and charities located within the Foundation’s service area (see map below). Speed is not required to win.

At its heart, RUN FOR IT has two goals:
1. To encourage participation in a healthy activity (running & walking).
2. To leverage funds for area causes.

Entry fee proceeds, team sponsor support, and cash awards benefit the racer's favorite:

Cause: We love skiing! That's why the Warriors of Wisp Team supports the Deep Creek Lake Lion's Club Blind Skier Program. This program hosts children from the Maryland School for the Blind each winter to teach them to ski which promotes confidence, fitness, and fun!
DHS Foundation Guardian AngelsCaptain: Mike Bell
Cause: The Davis Health System Foundation Guardian Angel Fund provides financial assistance for medically necessary items and services that contribute to the health, wellness, and quality of life of the individual. Programs include Chronic Care management, Orthopedic Nutritional Counseling, and a Free Mammogram Program at Davis Medical Center and Broaddus Hospital.

Canaan Valley Ski PatrolCaptain: Ray LaMora
Cause: CVSP offers training over the summer, a refresher in the fall, and on the hill training all winter to ensure our skills are adequate to assist skiers on the hill. We provide first aid to injured skiers at Canaan Valley, assist other resorts if needed, and provide care when needed off the mountain.
Philippi Public Library BookwormsCaptain: Judy Larry
Cause: The Philippi Public Library Bookworms are raising funds, support, and awareness for the library to match our WV Grant-in-Aid, meet operational expenses, provide quality materials, programs, classes, and services, and maintain an aging facility.
Mountaintop ReadersCaptain: Ivonne Martinez
Cause: Public libraries ensure that education, knowledge and technology are available to everyone and, in our small rural commuity, the library is a lifeline for many! The proceeds from the 2018 Run For It will be used for the purchase of books, programming, supplies and technology (75%) as well as contributing towards the Mountaintop Public Library New Building Match Fund (25%).
Kalie's Crew Captain: Kim DeGiovanni
Cause: The Kalie Hostutler Ashby Academic Achievement Fund honors the memory of Kalie and her belief in the possibilities that higher education brings to today's young people. Through this fund, we hope to encourage and inspire Garrett College students to pursue the highest level of academic success, just as Kalie did.
Grant County 4-HCaptain: Alexandra Coffman
Cause: Grant County 4-H provides many extra-curricular activities for over 200 youth members. 4-Hers participant in club meetings, community service, and educational activities. 4-Hers complete yearly animal and educational projects to show at the Tri-County Fair. Members participate in a wide-variety of activities from hiking to robotics while developing leadership skills.
Friends of the CheatCaptain: Amanda Pitzer
Cause: Friends of the Cheat (FOC) is a grassroots watershed group working to "restore, preserve, and promote the outstanding natural qualities of the Cheat River watershed." FOC cleans up acid mine drainage pollution, monitors stream health, develops regional rail-trails and public river accesses, and educates and advocates for a healthy environment.

Cause: We exist to assist furred, feathered, and scaled companions that fall outside the capacity of area animal shelters. By creating a network of foster homes and connections, we provide veterinary care and rehabilitation in safe, loving environments while working to find forever homes.

Heart of the HighlandsCaptain: Dan Lehmann
Cause: Heart of the Highlands Trail System is a nonprofit working closely with Tucker County public lands, private landowners, and community stakeholders to create an outstanding trail system. HoH believes a well designed and maintained system of trails will attract visitors and contribute to the economic development of Tucker County.

Challenged Athletes of West VirginiaCaptain: David Begg
Cause: Challenged Athletes of West Virginia provides adaptive sports and recreation opportunities for children and adults with diabilities. Programs include adaptive ski school operations in Pocahontas and Tucker Counties, summer activities, and annual events serving veterans and others with disabilities.

Cause: Raise funds for the Preston Community Fund, which has been endowed to benefit the citizens and communities of Preston County. The fund provides unrestricted grant awards to benefit students and charities of Preston County.

Cause: Funds will support the purchase and installation of the 3rd and final boulder for the public climbing park located in Davis.

Cause: Our mission is to be the bridge between parents and teachers by helping to enhance educational opportunities and student achievements.
Literacy Volunteers of Randolph CountyCaptain: Akiko Endo
Cause: Literacy Volunteers of Randolph county promotes literacy in Randolph County, WV through volunteer teaching programs to individuals wishing to improve literacy. We provide free tutoring in basic reading to adults and in English as a Second Language to non-native English speakers in Randolph County and the adjoining counties.

Cause: To utilize the historic Kump property for the promotion of student achievement and teacher excellence in central West Virginia through professional development, sustainability activities and studies, historic preservation, heritage education and cultural tourism.

Cause: We are a small, but mighty, Preston County based arts organization that sponsors visual arts, writing and craft workshops, and is currently renovating a group of buildings in Aurora, WV for future use as artist residencies.
